It was a fun, fabulous, and freaky time when my friend, the funk-master Rick James, put together a band he lovingly called the Mary Jane Girls. I joined the band in 1985 for the second album, Only For You. I was named Corvette, and played the part of a wild ‘n trendy girl. We had two top ten singles that year: “In My House,” and “Wild & Crazy Love.” I even sang lead on several of the B sides!
Throughout the 80's Rick found huge success at Motown, producing hits for the Temptaions, Teena Marie, Eddie Murphy, The Mary Jane Girls, and Val Young while scoring R&B chart toppers like "Cold Blooded" (1983) and "loosey's Rap" (1988).
But above all, I remember my friend, Rick James.
